Maceo Plex Reworks ‘Blade Runner’
Maceo Plex is the latest artist tasked with reworking a dance classic as part of UK label Renaissance Recordings’ ‘The ReMix Collection’ series.
The Ellum Audio head has delivered a truly impressive remix of Remake’s 1992 edit of The Blade Runner soundtrack for the third edition of Renaissance’s remix project. Whilst keeping the brooding, tense atmosphere of its 1994 original, Maceo has added just enough of his signature melodic, techno influence to bring this iconic dance cut into a new dawn.
Speaking of the remix, Renaissance founder Geoff Oakes said (via DJ Mag):
“Blade Runner’ is such an iconic Renaissance anthem that there was a part of me that wanted to keep it sacred, but the opportunity to work with Maceo convinced me we should do the remix.”
“I knew he loved and still played the original too, so would treat it with the respect it deserved,” he added. “As I knew he would, Maceo delivered an incredible addition to what is turning out to be quite a special series of remixes! I was blown away by the end result when I received the remix from him, but then I saw the crowd reaction to it in a club and I knew we had a monster on our hands!
Whilst Maceo said of his love for the original 1982, Vangelis produced soundtrack for the Ridley Scott;
“The original Vangelis, the soundtrack for the movie Blade Runner is my all-time favourite cinema soundtrack and one of my favourite records from the early 90’s is the cover ‘Blade Runner’ by Remake.”
The ‘Blade Runner’ remix follows Italian duo Tale of Us’ recent remix of Energy and Solomun’s rework of ‘Age Of Love’. Both of which are also a part of the Renaissance Recordings’ ‘The ReMix Collection’.
