Disabled Man Travels to Ibiza Following GoFundMe Appeal

An ardent house and techno fan has just returned from a trip to Ibiza after thoughtful strangers raised just over £4,500 for him to go.

Scottish born Gerald Masterton is severely disabled and is not allowed to travel without carers. The 47 year old, who has cerebral palsy, had longed to return to the White Isle after his first trip there in 2001. However, over the years his condition has deteriorated to the point where he now finds it hard to pay for the round the clock care he needs day to day.

After learning of his plight, Tim Sheridan (Dope Smugglaz, Mullet Over) launched a GoFundMe page in order to raise the money for Gerald to make the trip. The appeal then went viral after Seb Fontaine shared the page throughout his social media channels and enough was raised for Gerald and carers, Dakota Taylor and Abigail Merkl, to travel there.

He told the Daily Record, who also made it possible for him to meet Carl Cox;

Ibiza is not just a holiday for me, it’s my life. Without you nice people I wouldn’t have been able to see people who are like family to me.”

Despite Gerald’s condition he made the very most of holiday partying at Zoo Project, Mambo, Pacha and Ushuaia.

After returning to Shettleston, Glasgow, this past Saturday, Gerald made video thanking those who helped make the trip possible.
